Christmas is coming to SKÁL! on December 9th and 10th, as Gísli Matt takes over the kitchen for two special evenings, serving his own interpretation of an Icelandic Christmas feast.
Gísli is one of the founders of SKÁL! and has been a prominent figure in Iceland’s culinary scene for many years. He is best known for Slippurinn, his restaurant in the Westman Islands, which he ran for 14 years and gained international recognition for its creative approach to Icelandic ingredients, local food traditions and sustainable cooking. Today, Gísli runs NÆS in the Westman Islands and leads the culinary direction at YLJA, the restaurant at Laugarás Lagoon in South Iceland.
Throughout his career, Gísli has focused on exploring Icelandic ingredients, seasonality and traditional food culture, often bringing unexpected twists and fresh perspectives to familiar flavours.
For this special Christmas pop-up at SKÁL!, Gísli will draw inspiration from Icelandic Christmas traditions, combining nostalgic festive flavours with new ideas and playful interpretations. Guests can expect a multi-course menu celebrating beautiful Icelandic ingredients, creativity and the spirit of Christmas.
For two nights only, we’ll be serving this special Christmas menu in the warm and relaxed atmosphere of SKÁL!
